Back in Houston, unpacking gives us our first proper look at the thrones and furniture. We reflect on the pieces, the customers, and what comes next.

Finally Getting a Look at What We Bought

The truck was supposed to continue to New York by way of Savannah. We planned to unload in Houston, return for the remaining furniture, and take it north. Once we got back, that plan was finished. We didn’t have it in us.

We decided to sell the remaining inventory in Savannah instead.

We started unloading the Houston truck the next day, then worked on it the following day and the day after that.

Everything seemed heavier in Houston. Maybe it was fatigue, age, or knowing we didn’t have to get it all done that night. It was mid-September, over a hundred degrees, and humid. We hadn’t flown anywhere, but we had jet lag.

Once we got things unpacked, we finally had a chance to appreciate what we had brought home.

The teak driftwood swings were beautiful. Rustic and heavy, with shade covers and a lot of character, they were the beginning of what we wanted to do with IndoAkar. Philip has spent years building outdoor spaces, and these pieces fit naturally into that work.

You could picture yourself sitting there with a drink, a good friend, maybe the dog nearby, watching the sunset over a place you’re proud of. That was the idea behind bringing them in. We wanted people to enjoy them.

The ChesterHaus sofas came in blue, pink, and forest green. They were big, heavy velvet pieces that would look at home in a luxury hotel. Seeing them in our cleaned-up welding shop was quite a contrast. We were pleased with the sofas. The building still needed a little imagination.

Then we could really look at the thrones. The crushed purple velvet was beautiful in person. So was the red. The carving, colors, and size are difficult to appreciate fully on a phone.

The Halloween pieces had been a big part of that first order. The pumpkin designs reminded us of The Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown. The orange-and-black lion and skull thrones were impressive on their own. You could see them becoming part of a venue or someone’s annual Halloween setup.

The children’s thrones were smaller replicas of the adult versions, right down to the details. The two-sided, hand-carved mahogany cross in antique gold was very elegant. It deserved a better first viewing than two exhausted men trying to find somewhere to put it.

Our plan for the first two containers was to bring in an example of everything we intended to sell. We wanted to see the pieces ourselves, photograph them, and give customers a better look at what they were considering.

There was still inventory in Savannah and work to do there. Getting the truck to Houston had solved part of the problem, but standing among the unpacked furniture, we could finally start thinking beyond the next shipment.

We thought about the event planners and venues Michael had worked with over the years. Those customers had helped build a successful business, and we appreciate them. We would love to hear from them as we build Throne Source.

We also wanted to reach people buying for their homes, their families, or an occasion that mattered to them. Somebody might need a throne for a business. Somebody else might simply love it and want it in their house. We’re happy to talk to both.

We’re planning a pop-up or an open house, too. Keep an eye out for your invitation. These pieces are worth seeing in person, and we’d enjoy meeting the people who have been following along.

We had put a great deal into getting this furniture to Houston. Now came the part that gave all that effort a purpose: helping someone else enjoy it.

We love the inventory. We also bought it to sell it.

Admiration is welcome. Taking one home would be excellent.
